Teaching toileting skills can be a challenging feat in itself, but we often don’t realize that we need to teach the social aspects of toileting. Deficits in social skills and self-help skills present significant challenges for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The focus of this talk will be on an example of a treatment package that was used to teach adolescent males with ASD to use a urinal and evidence-based strategies that can be used to teach social skills in public restrooms.
